What was this and why was this created? I feel really possessed.

My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 17, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because this gave me cancer anyway. I love you Steve.

The young girl with Down Syndrome reminds me of my friend Alison, who I grew up with me in school. What's happened to all these beautiful students and aids? I try to pass this video onto friends who plan to go into teaching and those who have disabilities or have disabled siblings and friends. I have a learning disability, but managed to graduate from college despite it. I got jeered with the R word too many times-still get it too by those who don't know I went to North Ga. College and GSU (in Atlanta)- and know how it feels. My friend who has Asperger's and I were standing in line when some high school kids started jeering at us. Not having much time to counter then with this knowledge, my friend told them, "You may address us as Lt.'s". A slight fib. Only she's in the Navy. I said nothing.No more jeers.

Such sweet students (and helpers)! The students I knew in one high school I went to used the R word all the time and the staff did nothing about it, but if one if the special students inadvertly used the N word, he was suspended. Turns out this boy with Asperger's was assaulted physically for no reason before the "fight" (he was trying to to defend himself), but the staff could've cared less even about that. Yet, he survived and graduated at a different h.s. the following year. He even had friends of various races and later went onto college. I have a learning disability, but I too graduated from college. The hardest part is getting a job after college in some towns. The invisible sign "No disabled apply. Don't even try" is still out there. I found getting a job on campus was easier than off campus. Seems that despite having a college degree to some employers is almost as bad as the R word. A friend of mine with a mild case of CP is really having a difficult time getting a job and she has 3 degrees!
